LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University junior forward
Maron Brown was named Monday as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division men's basketball "Player of the Week."
Brown, who hails from Salisbury, Md., and is a graduate of Wicomico High School, earned the honor by averaging 24.5 points and 10 rebounds per game in two PSAC-West games last week.
He scored 23 points, including a game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to play, and grabbed 10 rebounds last Wednesday in an 82-80 win over Mercyhurst in Morrow Field House. Last Saturday, he scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in an 82-80 loss at Edinboro.
Last week's effort extended to four games the string of games in which Brown has scored 20 or more points and grabbed 10 or more rebounds. The game at Edinboro was the eighth straight in which he had a double-digit rebounding total.
Brown was the second Rock men's basketball student-athlete to receive a PSAC-West "Player of the Week" honor this winter. Senior guard
Michael Evans Jr. was honored Dec. 7, 2009.
Brown and Evans Jr. have helped lead The Rock to a 12-3 overall record (1-1 PSAC-W) this winter, the most wins by an SRU men's team since the 1989-90 season.
SRU returns to action Wednesday with an 8 p.m. division game against Gannon in Morrow Field House.
