INDIANA (Pa.) – The Slippery Rock University men’s cross country team ran away with the team title at the IUP Invitational Saturday at Indiana (Pa.) after placing five runners in the top-ten.
The Rock, racing in its first official team competition of the season, finished with a team total of 21 points. Indiana (Pa.) was second with 40 points, followed by Alderson-Broaddus with 79 points and West Liberty State with 106.
Slippery Rock was led by
Brian Ulrich, who finished second overall in a time of 26:38 over the 8,000-meter course. The first-place finisher was an unattached athlete.
Behind Ulrich, The Rock placed four men in the top ten to easily win the meet.
Matt Grey finished third in a time of 27:08, followed by
George Walton in fourth at 27:41.
Jason Leonard was the fourth Rock finisher, placing eighth in a time of 27:57.
Bradley Cubbage rounded out the scorers with a ninth-place finish in 27:58.
The Slippery Rock women’s team was also victorious Saturday at IUP.
The Rock will host the SRU Invitational Saturday, Oct. 3, at Cooper’s Lake Campground. The women’s race is scheduled to go off at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s race.
