GREENSBURG, Pa.
Amy Halls scored five goals and moved into third on the single-season scoring ledger as the Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team defeated Seton Hill, 21-8, Thursday evening.

The win is the fourth of the season for The Rock, marking the first four-win season for the program since the 1990 team finished 4-7. Entering this season, Slippery Rock had posted back-to-back winless campaigns in its first two years of competition since reinstating the sport after a 15-year absence.

Halls goals bring her season total to 44, third in the record books and one away from Regina Lynch, who scored 45 goals in 1985. Halls needs just three more goals to tie the record of 47, set by April Ennis in 1990.

The game was tied 3-3 with just under 18 minutes to play in the first half when Slippery Rock scored six unanswered goals to close the half with a 9-3 lead. The Rock used a 4-0 stretch at the beginning of the second half and closed the game with a 5-0 run to cruise to the win.

Halls wasn’t the only offensive standout for The Rock, as both Casey Quinn and Alexis Slutsky each scored four goals. Slutsky added three assists for a career-high seven-point effort.

Also scoring multiple goals were Alison Rusnak and Katie Roof, who each finished with two markers. Chelsey Rovesti (pictured above) scored her first collegiate goal and Sam Huebner, Claire Conrad and Samantha Eddy all found the net once.

Emma VanDenburg led the team with seven ground balls and also handed out three assists. Halls picked up six ground balls and Quinn recorded five.

Ashley Winkelspecht picked up the win in goal after allowing eight goals and registering 10 saves in a complete game.

Seton Hill was led by three goals from Laura Hambruch, with Ellen Einsporn adding two goals. Julie Wooden took the loss, allowing 21 goals and recording 20 saves.

For the game, Slippery Rock held advantages of 45-19 in total shots, 41-18 in shots on goal, 20-11 in draw controls and 30-26 in ground balls. The 21 goals scored was a season-high, replacing the previous high of 17 scored during a win over Edinboro.

With the win, The Rock improves to 4-9 overall this season. Seton Hill drops to 3-11.

Slippery Rock will return home for a rematch with Notre Dame College (Ohio) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Falcons won the season opener, 11-6, in Hilton Head, S.C. Mar. 3.
