Notre Dame rallies to defeat Rock, 15-10

Notre Dame College (Ohio) outscored The Rock 10-3 in the second half to rally back from an early three goal deficit and earn a 15-10 win Tuesday night

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Notre Dame College (Ohio) rallied from an early three goal deficit to defeat Slippery Rock University, 15-10, in lacrosse action Tuesday night at Thompson Stadium.

The Falcons trailed 7-4 with 5:52 to play in the first half before mounting a 7-0 rally to take an 11-4 lead with 16:35 to play. The deciding factor in the second half was draw controls, where Notre Dame finished 12-of-14 for the half to spark the rally and outscore The Rock 10-3 in the final period of play.

Slippery Rock was led by four goals and one assist from Casey Quinn, bringing her season tally to 26 goals, which ties for eighth on the single-season scoring ledger at SRU. Katie Roof added two goals and one assist and Amy Halls moved into sole possession of second on the single-season scoring list with two goals, bringing her total to 46. She needs just one more goal to tie the record of 47, set by April Ennis in 1990.

Emma VanDenburg and Brandi Otting rounded out the scoring for The Rock, each netting one goal.

Ashley Winkelspecht was credited with the loss after allowing 15 goals and registering 15 saves in a complete game effort. She also picked up four ground balls.

Notre Dame was led by four goals and one assist from Katie Christensen and three goals and three assists from Jenna Schuerman. Jenn Morse added two goals and two assists, while Jen Hrobuchak and Sarah Hutchison each scored two goals.

Ally Phillips was credited with the win after allowing 10 goals and recording seven saves.

Notre Dame finished with advantages of 41-18 in total shots, 30-17 in shots on goal, 20-7 in draw controls and 21-18 in ground balls.

With the win, the Falcons sweep the season series against The Rock, having won the season opener, 11-6, on Hilton Head Island, S.C. and improve to 7-3 overall. Slippery Rock drops to 4-10 overall.

The Rock will travel to #7 Gannon Thursday and will host its final home game of the season Saturday against Wilmington. Thursday's PSAC-West game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and Saturday's non-conference contest is set for 1 p.m. at Thompson Stadium. SRU will close the 2009 season next Wednesday, April 22, with a 7 p.m. conference match at Indiana (Pa.).
