Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Millersville University registered a 14-11 victory over the Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team Saturday at Thompson Stadium in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game.

The Marauders (3-3) posted a balanced attack of seven goals in each period and held off a late charge by The Rock (2-7) to emerge with the victory.

Millersville led 12-8 with just under 10 minutes to play when The Rock scored three unanswered goals to bring the deficit to one at 12-11 with 7:24 to play. The Marauders scored twice to end the rally and were able to manage the clock down the stretch to seal the win.

The game opened with two Millersville goals before Amy Halls scored her 22nd and 23rd goals of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Millersville regained a two goal advantage, 4-2, with 14:17 left in the first half and would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

Each time Slippery Rock got to within one goal, Millersville pushed its lead back to two and carried a 7-5 advantage at halftime.

The Marauders opened the second half with three goals to take their biggest lead of the game, 10-5, with 23:53 to play. The Rock responded goals by Katie Roof and Casey Quinn to bring the score to 10-7 and traded goals with Millersville to bring the score to 12-8 with 12:19 to play, setting up the finish.

Alexis Slutsky found the back of the goal at the 9:02 mark, followed by Halls at 8:18 and Quinn at 7:24, bringing the score to 12-11 with 7:24 to play.

The Rock won the ensuing draw but turned the ball over deep in the offensive end. Millersville capitalized with a good clear attempt and scored to take a 13-11 lead with 5:38 to play.

Slippery Rock won the next draw as well, but Millersville keeper, Courtney Haggerty, made a save on Quinn’s shot attempt and the Marauders were able to clear the ball and score with 3:31 left to play.

Emma VanDenburg won the draw control after the goal, but a series of four turnovers for each team in the final three minutes led to neither squad gaining possession or getting a shot attempt off.

Halls led Slippery Rock’s scoring effort with four goals, bringing her season total to 25 and moving her into a tie for 11th on the all-time single-season scoring list at SRU. Quinn continued her average of scoring three goals per game, while Roof added two goals and one assist. VanDenburg scored one goal and handed out two assists and Slutsky wrapped up the scoring for The Rock with one goal.

Quinn added four caused turnovers, five ground balls and four draw controls to her line in the box score, while Brianne Dishong finished with two caused turnovers and five ground balls to lead the defense.

Ashley Winkelspecht was credited with the loss in goal after allowing 14 goals and recording 10 saves. She also caused one turnover and picked up a team-high six ground balls.

Liz Weekely scored three goals as well, with Mary Houtmann, Brittany Long and Katrina Segar each scoring two goals.

The game was tightly contested on each end of the field, as evidenced by the final team totals for each squad. Millersville finished the game with a 33-22 advantage in total shots. Ground balls were even at 25 for each team and The Rock posted a 15-12 advantage in draw controls. The Marauders were successful on 11-of-16 clear attempts to Slippery Rock’s 6-of-9 effort. The Rock was called for 26 fouls to Millersville’s 23 and turned the ball over 25 times to the Marauders’ 18.

Slippery Rock will return to action in the final game of a three game homestand when it hosts Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday, April 1, in a PSAC-West match. First draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Thompson Stadium.

Notes: Slippery Rock wore long sleeve t-shirts during pregame warmups in support of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Head coach Emily Boosahda also wore one of the shirts on the sideline throughout the contest. The organization serves to benefit children with pediatric brain tumors and their families.
