SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --
Matt Grey crossed the finish line first to lead the Slippery Rock University men’s cross country team to a second-place finish in the SRU Invite at Cooper’s Lake Campground Saturday morning.
The Rock finished second with 45 points after being edged by Wayne State (Mich.) with 28 points. Penn State’s club team finished third with 69 points, followed by Mercyhurst, Westminster, William and Jefferson, Gannon and West Liberty.
Grey covered the 8,000-meter course in 26:09 to take the individual title.
Brian Ulrich was the second Rock finisher, crossing the line in fifth-place in 26:37.
Jason Leonard finished 10th in 27:20, followed by
Kyle Botten in 14th (27:41) and
George Walton in 16th (27:42) to round out The Rock’s scorers.
Slippery Rock will rest next weekend before traveling to Penn State for the National Invite on October 16 at the PSU golf course in State College.
