YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A frigid second-half shooting effort did mortal damage to The Rock's victory hopes Saturday afternoon vs. Division I Youngstown State.
YSU (4-7) recorded a 77-63 decision, helped along by a 25.8% (8 of 31) Rock performance from the field.
The Rock (2-9) and Penguins both hit 48.4% (15 of 31) of their action shots in the first half as the teams battled to a 38-38 stalemate in the opening 20 minutes.
The hosts then scored the first nine points of the second half and had a 21-6 advantage in the first 13 minutes to record the win.
Senior post player Ken Ottrix recorded team-high totals with 18 points and nine rebounds for SRU, which sustained its fifth straight loss. Junior guard
Matt Schaefer added 16 points in a substitute role, while freshman post player
Cory Somerville chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.
The Rock finished the game with a 37.1% efficiency from the field, hit 29.4% (5 of 17) from 3-point range and 52.2% (12 of 23) from the foul line.
SRU is idle until Jan. 6, when it will host Cheyney in a 3 p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" game in Morrow Field House.
