SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University Director of Athletics
Paul Lueken announced Tuesday that 80 Rock student-athletes had earned Academic Achievement Awards from the Division II Athletic Directors Association.
In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, he/she must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, completed a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and be an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
The group of Rock student-athletes honored features three female student-athletes who own a perfect 4.0 GPA, 12 individuals with a 3.9 GPA or higher, 23 members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship women's track and field/cross country program and 12 members of the men's cross country/track and field program.
Also included in the list of Rock student-athletes honored are eight members of the women's volleyball team that earned a berth in the NCAA playoffs for a fourth consecutive season, six members of the football team, five members of the women's softball team that earned a berth in the PSAC playoffs for the first time since 1984 and five members of the women's soccer team that earned berths in both the PSAC and NCAA regional tournaments.
Rounding the list of Rock student-athletes honored were five members each of the women's swimming and women's field hockey teams, four members of the men's soccer team that earned a berth in both PSAC and NCAA postseason competitions, two members of the regional runner-up women's tennis team, two members each of the women's basketball and women's lacrosse teams and one member of the baseball team.
