Annual "Dig for the Cure" event scheduled for Oct. 24

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team will sponsor its annual “Dig for the Cure” match Saturday, Oct. 24 against Mercyhurst. The match is set to start at 4 p.m. in Morrow Field House.

Rock players are currently soliciting support for the event via either flat donations or pledges for every dig recorded during the match. The Rock is averaging 17.7 digs per set this season.

The team will also be selling pink Slippery Rock Volleyball “Dig for the Cure” T-shirts for $10 each, as well as pink wristbands for $1 each. Area businesses will also donate items to be sold at a concession stand during the match and free-will donations will be accepted.

All proceeds will go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.

This is the third year The Rock has hosted a “Dig for the Cure” event. The first two events generated over $8,000 in donations to the Komen Foundation.

To make a pledge or get more information on the SRU event, click here or contact Rock Assistant Coach Erin Street at erin.street@sru.edu or 724. 738.4960.

The “Dig for the Cure” project was founded in 2003 at University of North Carolina-Charlotte Head Volleyball Coach Lisa Marston after her mother was diagnosed with the disease.

In the last five years over $300,000 has been raised for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which distributes monies to local chapters. The closest Komen Foundation chapter to the SRU campus is located in Pittsburgh.
