UTICA, N.Y. -- The Rock won one and lost three over the weekend to finish fourth in the Snowy Seven competition hosted by Utica College.
SRU (1-9) opened tournament play with a 15-2 loss to Iona, then recorded its first win of the season with a 6-2 triumph over Boston College before it dropped back-to-back decisions to Notre Dame 10-5 and Gannon 7-6.
In the third-place game vs. Gannon, The Rock had an apparent game-tying goal at the buzzer disallowed.
Sarah Sander led The Rock attack with seven goals this weekend, while
Beth Choike added six.
Choike and Amanda Guiseppetti each scored a goal vs. Iona. Choike also had a steal and three caused kickouts.
Heather Walbright had an assist, one steal and one caused kickout;
Betsy Wilson recorded a steal and two caused kickouts and Sander and
Megan Jo Ramage each had a steal.
Sander scored three goals and assisted on the other three Rock tallies in the win over Notre Dame. Walbright scored two goals and had one steal and two caused kickouts, while Choike added a goal, an assist, two steals and one caused kickout. Goalie
Lauren Surbaugh had 12 saves.
Choike scored two goals and had one assist, one steal and two caused kickouts vs. Notre Dame. Wilson added one goal, one assist and two steals;
Ashley Goodwill chipped in one goal and two assists; Walbright had a goal; Sander recorded two steals and a caused kickout and Ramage added a steal and a caused kickout. Surbaugh recorded 12 saves and two steals.
Sander scored four goals and had two steals and Choike scored two goals and had two caused kickouts vs. Gannon. Walbright had two assists and Wilson added an assist and a steal. Surbaugh recorded 10 saves.
The Rock is idle until March 25, when it will host Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division rival Penn State-Behrend in an 8:30 p.m. match in the Morrow Field House pool.
