Slippery Rock University Athletics

Richard Shirey (1962) was an outstanding runner during his undergraduate career at The Rock. A three-time PSAC champion in cross country, he posted top-10 finishes at the NCAA College Division Cross Country Championships and earned All-America honors in all four seasons of his collegiate career. Shirey set numerous school records in distance running in both track and cross country. He was a national Junior AAU Cross Country champion and was the winner of the 1960 Berwick Marathon.
