Ray Haynes (1937) captained The Rock soccer team and also played basketball and baseball during his collegiate days. He earned seven varsity letters during his time at Slippery Rock.
After graduating, Haynes went on to teach physical education at Franklin Township High School. He also coached the Franklin football, basketball, and baseball teams.
Haynes then took a position at Carnegie Mellon University as the director of physical education and athletics, eventually becoming the head of the department of physical education.
Haynes was awarded the “Who’s Who in Physical Education” EDA President’s Award and was also inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of Sports Hall of Fame.
Haynes also served on the board of directors and alumni association at Slippery Rock University.
