Jeanne Powell Furrie (1945) was a member of the field hockey team during her time at The Rock, a club sport at the time.
After SRU, Furrie served on the WPGAL board prior to its merger with the WPIAL, then served on the WPIAL’s basketball committee for several years. She also taught and coached at Penn Hills High School for 22 years.
Furrie was also a lifelong member of the SRU Alumni Association and served on its board of directors. She was a member of the Ruby Lifetime Giving Club at SRU and had given generously to the Russell Wright Alumni House expansion project. Furrie also established the Jeanne Powell Furrie Scholarship for physical education majors.
After passing away in 2013, Furrie left the largest legacy gift in SRU history, with the donation totaling $735,000.
