Edward Boyle (1958) was The Rock’s first recognized All-America selection in soccer after earning both area and national honors in 1956 and again in 1957. A four-year letterwinnner, he was SRU’s representative to the Soccer Sun Bowl in 1955 and was the team captain and MVP in 1956.
 
After graduating from Slippery Rock, Boyle went on to teach physical education at Fox Chapel High School in 1961. He also started the boys’ varsity soccer program at the school and was the Foxes’ first coach. Boyle also coached diving and track at Fox Chapel, and started an intramural indoor hockey league.
