Slippery Rock University Athletics

Dr. Russell Wright (1923) was involved with the U.S. Olympic weightlifting team for more than 40 years and is a former team physician for SRU, the NBA Detroit Pistons and Detroit Tigers major-league baseball team. As an SRU undergraduate, he played football, baseball, track and tennis. He was the sole contributor to the Wright Fitness Center which opened on the SRU campus in 1985 and is now housed in the Aebersold Student Recreation Center. He passed away in 2002.
