Dr. John A. Samsa (1983) earned second-team CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America honors as a senior guard on The Rock men's basketball team.
Dr. Samsa is currently director of both the Cardiac Catheterization and Echocardiography laboratories for Lake Hospital Systems in Ohio.
Selected in 1993 as SRU's "Outstanding Senior Male," he had the honor of serving as a commencement speaker. As an undergraduate, he received the Sharon Mowy Arts & Sciences, Maree McKay and James Steele Memorial scholarships.
Dr. Samsa later received a National Osteopathic College Scholarship Award and board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Samsa graduated fourth in his class from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. He completed his residency at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic and served a fellowship at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago.
He began his medical career at Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio and currently holds certification from the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and American Board of Internal Medicine and is licensed to practice medicine in Ohio and Illinois.
Dr. Samsa is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Academy of Medicine and American College of Cardiology.
He is a 1979 graduate of Mohawk High School.
