Dave Barnes (1961) played No. 1 tennis singles his entire collegiate career and lost just three matches in four seasons. He had an undefeated record as a senior.

After Barnes playing days, he took up coaching. He coached the Butler High boys’ tennis team for 35 years and the girls’ team for 24. His combined record for both of those teams was 741-280. Barnes was also a physical education and history teacher at Butler.
