SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dominique Duck, a former standout performer at Division I Western Kentucky University, will serve as the women's basketball graduate assistant at NCAA Division II Slippery Rock University, first-year Rock head coach #Tanya Bauer announced Monday.
“Dominique is an intelligent, mature, leadership-oriented person with a great work ethic," Bauer said. "She exhibited all of those traits as a player and I know she is eager to get her coaching career started. I am excited about watching her transition those attributes to her new role on staff here at SRU.”
A Pittsburgh native and graduate of Schenley High School, Duck concluded her collegiate playing career as the No. 16 scorer in WKU history with 1,344 points. She set the school record for career games played (137), was tied for third in games started (121) and was ranked seventh in blocked shots (113).
Duck was named as the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Tournament and earned second-team preseason and postseason All-SBC honors in 2007-08.
As a high school player, Duck led Schenley to a pair of Pittsburgh City League championships and was named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's “Fab Five.” She scored 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the 2005 city championship game and averaged 15 points and 7.9 rebounds during her two seasons at Schenley.
Duck joins a Rock staff that also includes assistant coach
Jeff Crouse.
The Rock opens its 2010-11 schedule with a Nov. 3 exhibition game at Division I Cleveland State before officially tipping off the campaign with a No. 15 home game vs. Tiffin (Ohio) University in Morrow Field House on the SRU campus.
