SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Katina Polites, an assistant coach at St. Francis University in Loretto the past two seasons, has been named as The Rock's assistant coach, SRU Director of Athletics Paul Lueken announced Wednesday.
Polites, who served one season as an assistant coach at Haverford College before being hired at St. Francis, will be the top assistant to third-year Rock head coach Stacey Hart. She will begin work at SRU on August 4.
Polites has also served as a coach on the staff of the Vipers Field Hockey Club and the USA Field Hockey Futures Program, as well as working as a private field hockey tutor.
Polites was a four-year letterwinner at Connecticut, where she helped lead the Huskies to three Big East regular season titles, two conference tournament championships, and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight showing in 2003.
While at Haverford, Polites instructed the student-athletes in the skills and knowledge of the game, developed and demonstrated techniques/drills, and worked with the coaching staff on achieving team goals and preparing daily practices. In addtion, she constructed a weight training program for the field hockey student-athletes.
Polites received her bachelor of science in Sociology from the University of Connecticut in 2005.
