MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Rock sophomore utility player
Matt Adams received his second All-America honor of the season recently when he was named to third-team Daktronics Inc. honors in voting by Division II sports information directors.
The Daktronics honor came one week after Adams was named to second-team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the third earned by the Philipsburg native in two collegiate campaigns. He received third-team NCBWA honors as a catcher in 2007.
Prior to receiving this year's All-America honors, Adams recorded a trifecta when he received first-team All-North Atlantic Region honors from the NCBWA, American Baseball Coaches Association and Daktronics Inc. (sports information directors).
Adams was also named to first-team all-region honors a year ago by the three organizations.
Adams led The Rock in batting average (.438), home runs (9) and RBis (44) this spring. He also had nine doubles and one triple, a .708 slugging percentage and a .516 on base percentage.
A first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division selection for the second consecutive season, Adams ranked second among PSAC hitters in both slugging percentage and on base percentage, third in batting average and fourth in home runs. His batting average tied for the sixth best mark in SRU baseball history.
