ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Rock sophomore utility player
Matt Adams was named Wednesday to second-team All-America honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The All-America honor is the second received by Adams in as many collegiate seasons. He received third-team honors as a catcher in 2007.
Earlier this month, Adams recorded a trifecta when he received first-team All-North Atlantic Region honors from the NCBWA, American Baseball Coaches Association and Daktronics Inc. (sports information directors).
Adams was also named to first-team all-region honors a year ago by the three organizations.
Adams led The Rock in batting average (.438), home runs (9) and RBis (44) this spring. He also had nine doubles and one triple, a .708 slugging percentage and a .516 on base percentage.
A first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division selection for the second consecutive season, Adams ranked second among PSAC hitters in both slugging percentage and on base percentage, third in batting average and fourth in home runs. His batting average tied for the sixth best mark in SRU baseball history.
