SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Rock learned Monday morning that it has earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region tournament, which starts Thursday in California, Pa.

SRU (22-14) will face Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Edinboro (26-10) in opening-round action at Hamer Hall.

Other opening-round matches include California (33-3) vs. Fayetteville State (26-11), Kutztown (27-9) vs. Shippensburg (30-11) and  Clarion (27-5) vs. Lees-McRae (26-11).

The winner of the regional tournament advances to the final-eight competition, which will be held November 29 through Dec. 1 on the campus of a participating institution.

The Rock will make its third straight trip to regional competition. SRU lost a first-round match in 2005, then won one and lost a year ago.

SRU lost both regular-season matches vs. Edinboro this fall.
