Kevin Reynolds, a 10-year member of the NCAA Division I coaching fraternity, was named May 15, 2008, as The Rock’s head coach.

Reynolds assumed the reins of the NCAA Division II Rock program after serving one season as assistant coach at Division I Morehead State University, where he was on the staff of 2007-08 Ohio Valley Conference “Coach of the Year” Donnie Tyndall.

“Kevin has been one of the top assistant coaches in all of Division I basketball,” Tyndall said. “When the opportunity presented itself for me to hire him, it was an easy decision, although I knew I would not be able to keep him very long. We will miss Coach Reynolds a great deal, but we will be pulling for him next season. Kevin was a huge part of our success this season, and there is no doubt in my mind he will quickly turn Slippery Rock University into one of the premier Division II programs in the country,” Tyndall added.“His work ethic, attention to detail and his commitment to do things the right way makes Kevin a home run hire for Slippery Rock University. "

Reynolds was selected from a candidate pool of over 180 applicants.

“We think we found the right person to lead Rock Basketball back to the elite of the PSAC [Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference],” Rock Director of Athletics Paul Lueken said. “Kevin’s experience as a player and coach in the PSAC, along with his recruiting contacts in Division I and II, will be invaluable.”

Prior to joining the Morehead State staff, Reynolds served two and a half seasons as an assistant coach and the last half of the 2006-07 season as interim head coach at Division I University of Denver, a member of the Sun Belt Conference. He also served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Penn State University (Big Ten Conference) and six seasons as an assistant coach at Drake University (Missouri Valley Conference).

Reynolds stepped outside the coaching circle for one year and served as director of international sports marketing for AND1, an athletic shoe manufacturer specializing in basketball shoes and apparel.

Assuming The Rock reins will be like coming home for Reynolds, who is a native of Bethlehem, Pa.

Early in his coaching career, he was associate head coach, assistant coach and graduate assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and assistant coach at Edinboro University. Indiana and Edinboro, like The Rock, are members of the PSAC’s Western Division.

Reynolds was also a four-year basketball player at Bloomsburg University, a member of the PSAC’s Eastern Division, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing (1991). He also earned an MBA (1993) and a master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations (1994) at Indiana (Pa.).
